New vulvodynia diagnostic classification released by the ISSVD more consistent with the biopsychosocial model of chronic pain. Physical therapy, psychologic interventions for pain management and multidisciplinary treatment approaches are now recommended although more studies are needed to determine which treatments are most effective.
